I have read Walking with Wolf (review here: http://booksandneedlepoint.blogspot.com/2009/01/walking-with-wolf-by-kay-chornook-wolf.html) – I used the setting of the book/Wolf Guindon’s home which is Costa Rica. It is approximately 2200 miles from Chicago, Illinois.
I read Senselessness by Horacio Castellanos Moya, he’s from El Salvador which is more than 2000 miles (3334 kilometers) from where I am.

I chose The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo to be under this category. Kate’s birthplace is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and my location is Malaysia. The distance is 9456 miles.

the link above shows the distance, 7332 miles. I live in St. Louis, MO – the author was born in Angola (and that’s also where the story takes place). There was only one listing on the site for Angola, so I figured it was close enough and would work.
For distance I chose Jeaniene Frost’s Halfway to the Grave. The story takes place in Licking Falls, Ohio (a fictional town) so I merely used the distance between New Mexico (where I’m at) and Ohio which is approximately 1,383 miles. The author’s residence is in Florida which is approximately 1,790 miles from my location.

I have chosen “White Rose” by Amy Ephron for distance. I live in the southern U.S. White Rose takes place in Cuba.
For my “distance” book, I chose One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. He was born in Russia. I’m not sure what part, but it’s way over 1000 miles from my birthplace! (Aprox 6000 miles away)

I just finished my Distance book: Edna Ferber’s Show Boat (review here). Ferber was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, but lived most of her life in New York City. Those two locations are 1990 and 2474 miles, respectively, from my home of Portland, Oregon.
I chose Kate Mosse’s Labyrinth for this category. Her birthplace is England – 4861 miles from me, and the setting is France – 5036 miles from me (I live in Rosenberg, TX).
